The Gillman Draft Masterpan report identified an opportunity to provide tidal gates to Barker Inlet and create an intertidal wetland to rehabilitate some acid sulphate soils.
The PAREPG response supports the implementation of intertidal wetlands and notes that industrial development of the area is likely to be considerably more expensive than development at competing sites.
However rehabilitation by the construction of a wetland has economic advantages, and hence the wetland area should be maximised, and any fill should complement the tidal creek landscape.
